About A MAZE.

History

History of A MAZE.

Since 2008 A MAZE. is celebrating the convergence of games and art.

A MAZE. is an independent label created by Thorsten S. Wiedemann, that develops and carries out new event formats dedicated to Games and Media Art in general. A MAZE. is an open space for collective interaction with electronic and analog media through games, art and discourse. Alongside the presentation of digital and experimental games we encourage artists to develop new interfaces and associate them with New Media Arts.

These include the Berlin-based Games Culture Circle (www.gamesculturecircle.de) talkshow which takes place several times a year and is presented online at ARTE Creative and the A MAZE. Night of Machinima, a monthly screening event in Berlin. A MAZE. also hosted the 2010 A MAZE. Interact Festival (www.amaze-festival.de/interact) in cooperation with Club Transmediale as well as several exhibitions and it participates in foreign festivals. 2011 saw A MAZE. United‘s (http://www.amaze-festival.de/maze-united) participation in the supporting program of Transmediale 11, aimed at activating a pan-European network.

Since 2012 A MAZE. is organizing the International Independent Video Game Festival in Berlin: called A MAZE. / Berlin) with its own award for The Most Amazing Games. The festival is funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

To create a sustainable link and exchange between Africa and Europe we've produced the first pan african platform in the field of games and media art. 2012 was in partnership with Goethe-Instiut in Johannesburg and 2013 with Wits Digital Arts. For the year 2013/ 2014 we are funded by the European Union (2012: www.amaze-festival.de/interact-2012, 2013: www.amaze-johannesburg.co.za)
