retroFuture (SA)

Michael de Jager: An illustrator and animator by trade, I decided to dive headfirst into game design and development with nothing but an unwavering love of arcades of the 80's and 90's, and not much else. I founded retroFuture so that the legacy of those arcades can live on and evolve into new and exciting forms. Ever since I witnessed the audio-visual splendor of Defender as a small boy, arcades have always had a hold on me. I aim to make games that speak to my generation of coin-op gamers, and to the next generation of gamers raised on Playstation and Xbox. My games seek to explore the potential of popular arcade genres by fleshing them out with solid, satisfying mechanics and polished, retro-futuristic aesthetics.

Julian Pritchard: Being fed up with academia I spent some time in ‘the industry’ working on titles like ‘The Harvest’ and ‘Bladeslinger’ but I still found that I had the same drain on my soul, the same ennui: so I left.

With Mike, and his vision of retroFuture, I felt the vigor of my young self who didn’t know the bounds of reality when it came to making games. Whether it was the pure passion, or raw determination: I decided that I had to do whatever I can to bring this game to life, so others might too experience this joy.
